The degree of immunosuppression and disease severity at the time of HIV diagnosis, as indicated by low nadir CD4+ T cell counts, low CD4:CD8 T cell ratios, extended periods of immunodeficiency and a prior history of AIDS‐defining illness, has been reported to be associated with an increased incidence of NADCs [12, 13, 14, 15]. The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is immunodeficiency disease.
