Taking into account that our previous studies demonstrated a relationship of ARG2 and IL-1β in vascular disease and obesity (Ming et al., 2012) and in age-associated organ fibrosis such as renal and pulmonary fibrosis (Huang et al., 2021; Zhu et al., 2023), and IL-1β has been shown to play a causal role in patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease as shown by CANTOS trials (Ridker et al., 2017), we therefore focused on the role of IL-1β in crosstalk between macrophages and cardiac cells such as cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells. The gene discussed is ARG2; the disease is pulmonary fibrosis.
