Interestingly, although not an independent risk factor, our study showed that children with anaemia (Hb ≤ 10 g/dL) living in a malaria-endemic area were two times more likely to have trichuriasis compared to those with Hb greater than 10 g/dL (OR 2.46; 95%CI, 1.14–5.31; p = 0.020). The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is malaria.
