In APOE*3-Leiden.CETP mice fed a cholesterol-containing high-fat diet that promotes atherosclerosis, 4 weeks of daily 50 μg/kg exenatide treatment protected against hepatic inflammation, as indicated by a decrease in CD68+, F4/80+, and CD18+/CD11b+ staining, as well as reduced Tnf, Il1b, and Il6 mRNA levels in the liver (67). This evidence concerns the gene TNF and atherosclerosis.
