Researchers compared the levels of inflammatory and angiogenic cytokines in biopsies between patients with MASH and patients with simple steatosis and normal liver tissue, revealing increased expression of TNAα, IL6, VEGF and sVEGFR1 in a population with steatosis and MASH compared to healthy controls and greater expression of TNAα in MASH patients than in patients with steatosis.36 This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
