Our findings raised interesting questions about the insertion sites of the PLB1 gene within the reconstituted genome and the genetic regulatory factors of PLB1 expression that may have impaired the ability of the Rec1 strain to effectively control PLB1 expression during in vivo infection, resulting in the inability of the Rec1 strain to form a cryptococcoma upon direct inoculation into the CNS. This evidence concerns the gene RAD1 and infection.
