Notably, specific peptides derived from the VGF precursor protein (not to be confused with VEGF), such as those named TLQP [6, 7] and NERP [8], have been identified as potential indicators of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) [5, 9], while others, including the AQEE sequence, have been reported at reduced levels in psychiatric disorders [10] but elevated in the context of neurodegeneration associated with multiple sclerosis [11].
