INS and Insulin resistance: Both before and after adjusting for sex, plasma insulin (p < 0.001 both) (Fig. 1B), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) (p < 0.001 both) (Fig. 1C), plasma TG (p = 0.007 and p = 0.043, respectively) (Fig. 1F), and serum leptin (p < 0.001 and p = 0.002, respectively) (Fig. 1I) were significantly higher, whereas QUICKI (p < 0.001 both) (Fig. 1D) and plasma HDL-C (p = 0.004 and p = 0.007, respectively) (Fig. 1G) were significantly lower in participants with IR compared to those without IR.
