CCL2, also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein‐1 (MCP‐1), is a member of the CC chemokine family and located on the q11.2–q12 region of human chromosome 17.[48] It encodes a precursor protein of 99 amino acids that is processed into a 75‐amino acid mature form.[49] Initially identified as a tumor‐derived chemotactic factor, CCL2 is recognized as a potent chemoattractant for various immune cell populations, including monocytes, natural killer (NK) cells, memory T cells, and immature dendritic cells.
