SPTBN1 was identified as a new potential regulator of the leaky phenotype of atherosclerotic plaque microvessels [83]; and FBLN2 encodes the extracellular matrix protein fibulin 2 which may have an important role in the progression of atherosclerosis in females and may serve as a biomarker for atherosclerosis [84,85]. This evidence concerns the gene FBLN2 and atherosclerosis.
