Atorvastatin is a lipophilic statin that has showed an evidenced efficacy in the treatment of several cancer types [28,29,30,31], owed to its activity in inducing autophagy [32,33] through activation of LC3 transcription [34] or independent of the MEV pathway [35], inhibiting pyroptosis [36], which is related to the development of cancer [25], apoptosis induction in hypoxia-induced cells with and without irradiation by reducing the HIF-1α protein expression [37] and promoting cell-cycle arrest of G1 phase by inhibiting Ras signaling pathways [38,39]. This evidence concerns the gene MAP1LC3A and cancer.
