SLC5A5 and breast carcinoma: Considering that NIS overexpression in atypical cells of breast carcinomas is associated with increased genetic instability and excessive activity of pro-oncogenic signaling pathways, and that intracellular accumulation of abnormal forms of NIS contributes to the migration and metastasis of tumor cells, it is more likely that the changes in the genetic and transcriptional apparatus of cells acquired by the luminal epithelium during pregnancy potentially contribute to the suppression of the malignant properties of tumor cells of triple-negative breast cancer.
