Superoxide dismutase 2 heterozygous knockout (SOD2(+/−)) mice exhibit numerous pathological phenotypes, including a higher propensity to oxidative injury, dilated cardiomyopathy, severe anemia, neurodegeneration, impaired mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, initiation of early apoptosis, and poor survival [59,60,61,62,63].
