NR1H4 and intrahepatic cholestasis: Using animal models, it has been demonstrated that the NTBF strain ATCC 25285 can induce intrahepatic cholestasis (ICP) through the activity of its bile salt hydrolase (BSH), which inhibits the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) leading to an excessive synthesis of bile acids, interrupting hepatic bile excretion, and ultimately promoting the initiation of ICP in pregnancy patients [103].
