Several recent studies have identified PKM2 as a promising therapeutic target for various diseases, including cancer [45,46], metabolic disorders [47], neurodegeneration [48], neuropathic pain [49], arthritis [50], inflammatory conditions [51] and CVDs, including MI [52,53,54], cardiac hypertrophy [55], and right ventricle failure [56], etc. Therefore, the multifaceted features of PKM2 make it an interesting and unique target for cardiac repair. Here, PKM is linked to metabolic disease.
