Stabilizing or protecting elastic fibers with pentagalloyl glucose (PGG) after injury, via local or targeted systemic delivery, reduces MMP activity, preserves elastin, and attenuates AAA growth in rats, with systematic reviews noting benefit across several animal studies (albeit with heterogeneous methods and quality), which reinforces the concept that interrupting elastin loss can decelerate the disease [94,95,96].
