GABRG2 and idiopathic generalized epilepsy: As the GABRG2 gene encodes the ɣ2 subunit of GABAA receptors, which is reported to be the crucial determinant of receptor function [11], and on the basis of recent studies that determined that the target action of many ASMs is GABA receptor-mediated [12] [24], we hypothesized that genetic polymorphisms of the GABRG2 gene may influence the susceptibility of Egyptian children to IGE and may also impact ASMs effectiveness in controlling their seizure activity.
