CGAS and infection: Of note, a recent study indicates that lactate, the terminal metabolite of aerobic glycolysis, impairs the innate immune response by augmenting the lactylation of cyclic GMP‐AMP synthase (cGAS).[45] Based on these observations, we propose a hypothesis that, during MPXV infection, the induced aerobic glycolysis rapidly generates the energy required for viral replication while concurrently enabling lactate‐mediated immune evasion, thereby facilitating viral spread.
