The fibrils, pairedhelical filaments (PHFs), are the main components of insoluble neurofibrillarytangles (NFTs), which are a hallmark of neurodegenerative tauopathies, disrupt normal cellular functioning, and result in the death of thenerve cells. Tau oligomers (TOs), formedin the early stage of tau aggregation, cause neuronal damage, leadingto neurodegeneration and traumatic brain injury.−, Recent evidenceshows soluble TOs are more toxic than insoluble NFTs.−, Therefore, investigating the effects of abnormal phosphorylationon tau oligomerization is highly intriguing. Here, MAPT is linked to brain injury.
