INS and Hypoglycemia: Although the incidence of severe hypoglycemia was very low in both groups (0.6% vs 0.3%), the incidence of any hypoglycemia was higher in the intensive therapy group (41% vs 22%).28 Thus, the J-DOIT3 trial stands in clear contrast to the DCCT, where individuals with type 1 diabetes were treated with insulin, with less strict glycemic management in the conventional therapy group (HbA1c approximately 9%) and frequent severe hypoglycemia, especially in the intensive therapy group (62 episodes per 100 person-years).2
