The core histone methyltransferase of PRC2, EZH2, is highly expressed in embryonic stem cells (Lee, Li, et al. 2022) and has critical roles in maintaining pluripotency (Collinson et al. 2016) and facilitating OSKM‐mediated reprogramming (Fragola et al. 2013); correspondingly, its repression of cell‐cycle inhibitor genes such as CDKN1A (encoding p21CIP1) and CDKN1C (encoding p57KIP2), as has been reported in cancer cells (Fan et al. 2011; Yang et al. 2009), may promote re‐entry of PAX7+ satellite cells into the cell cycle during OSKM induction. This evidence concerns the gene CDKN1C and cancer.
