In the mouse, ablation of Esrp1 causes a bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate, and ablation of both Esrp1 and Esrp2 leads to a more severe bilateral cleft lip and palate phenotype (Bebee et al., 2015; Carroll et al., 2020; Lee et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene ESRP2 and cleft lip.
