FOS and infection: For instance, SCI drives overactivation of T8 dorsal horn neurons, causing aberrant sensory and autonomic network hyperactivity that induces systemic immunosuppression and predisposes to life‐threatening infections.[74, 75] Notably, post‐SCI microglial depletion prevented maladaptive synaptic and structural plasticity within autonomic networks.[76] In our study, pharmacological microglial inhibition recapitulated this neuroprotective effect, significantly reducing c‐Fos+ neuronal density in the T8 dorsal horn.
