The most notable differences were 1) M. orygis recruited more immune cells compared to M. tb, as early as day 21, 2) this recruitment was not seen in the M. tb group at the same timepoint, and 3) M. orygis infection was dominated by neutrophils, macrophages, and myeloperoxidase (MPO)-producing cells (Fig. 2E and SI Appendix, Fig. S6 A and B). This evidence concerns the gene MPO and infection.
