Inflammation downregulates serum IGF-1, but the roles of intake of animal-source foods and micronutrient status are not well known.
Objectives
We assessed the associations of infections, intake of animal-source foods, iron, B12, folate, and vitamin A status with serum IGF-1 among stunted children.
Methods
We conducted a cross-sectional study, using data from a nutrition trial among 12-59-mo-old stunted Ugandan children. The gene discussed is IGF1; the disease is infection.
