At 48 hours post-infection (hpi), viable, infected (GFP+), CD34+ HPCs were isolated via fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) and were seeded into long-term bone marrow culture (LTBMC) above a murine stromal support layer under conditions that favor latent infection, as previously described (9, 39, 40). Here, CD34 is linked to disease arising from reactivation of latent virus.
