In the first part of the study, the team showed elevated levels of representatives of the genera Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Tenericutes, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes among EC patients, and, even more significantly, the microorganisms participated in the metabolic conversion of N-acetyl-β-glucosaminyl to 6-sulpho-sialyl Lewis x epitope and promoted the 6-sulpho-biosynthesis of sialyl Lewis x epitope, a molecule responsible for promoting metastasis by adhering tumor cells to endothelial cells. The gene discussed is FUT4; the disease is neoplasm.
