Acupuncture could increase the level of Oxy-Hb in the left dorsolateral prefrontal lobe of the brain in patients with depression and reduce the level of Deoxy-Hb, thereby improving the inhibitory state of the patient's brain. In healthy individuals, the left dorsolateral prefrontal lobe of the brain showed no significant response to acupuncture, suggesting that whether the brain was injured or not was an important factor affecting whether there was a response to acupuncture. The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is depressive disorder.
