NFATC2 and synucleinopathy: During development, the absence of NFATc2 does not affect joint formation, but its overexpression in adulthood and old age results in severe dysfunction of articular chondrocytes.[62] Another study reported elevated total levels and nuclear translocation of NFATc2 in both neuronal and non‐neuronal cells of patients with synucleinopathy, where its activation triggers a neuroinflammatory cascade.[63] Under resting conditions, NFATc2 remains highly phosphorylated in the cytoplasm.
