CRP and infection: The AUROC of the Bacterial score (0.83, 80% CI: 0.81–0.85) was significantly higher than those of commonly used biomarkers for the diagnosis of infections, including procalcitonin (AUROC = 0.71, 80% CI: 0.68–0.73), CRP (AUROC = 0.74, 80% CI: 0.72–0.77) and white blood cell (WBC) counts (0.76, 80% CI: 0.73–0.78) (P < 0.0001 for all comparisons; Extended Data Table 5a).
