First, cellular characteristics such as morphology and ability to contract and proliferate were characterized, and then the ability of the MCs to respond to inflammation (IL-1β), diabetic milieu, and proliferation (PDGF-BB) stimulation were investigated, with special interest in the latter, since it is a common mesangial pathological condition in many glomerulopathies. This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and lipoprotein glomerulopathy.
