CDH2 and neoplasm: In the course of EMT, tumor cells start losing the expression or the function of epithelial markers, such as E-cadherin (epithelial cadherin), involved in intercellular adhesion, and gain mesenchymal markers, such as vimentin, mesenchymal neural cadherin (N-cadherin), matrix metalloproteinases (MMP 1,3,9), integrins (α2β1, α5β1), fibronectin, and collagen [77,78,79].
