SORL1, FERMT2, and apolipoprotein E (ApoE4) (Balcar et al., 2021; Mishra et al., 2022; Sullivan et al., 2019), are mainly expressed by astrocytes, and astrocytes undergo a series of morphological, molecular, and functional changes during the course of AD, suggesting that astrocytes play an important role in the pathogenesis of AD. This evidence concerns the gene APOE and Alzheimer disease.
