ZIKV-infected A549 cells showed fewer SGs per cell upon treatment with arsenite (an HRI agonist), poly(I:C) (a PKR agonist; delivered by transfection) or hippuristanol (an eIF4A modulator) compared to mock-infected cells, the latter result contrasting with data reported by Amorim et al. Moreover, ZIKV infection alone was sufficient to induce eIF2α phosphorylation at 24 and 48 h post-infection and infected cells treated with arsenite or transfected with poly(I:C) at 12 h post-infection displayed elevated levels of eIF2α phosphorylation compared to untreated cells. Here, EIF2A is linked to Zika virus infectious disease.
