Laboratory results revealed a mild anemia, with a hemoglobin (Hb) level of 11.6 g/dL (normal range: 12.0–16.0 g/dL), and signs of systemic inflammation, including an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) of 58 mm/h (normal range: 0–30 mm/h), a C-reactive protein (CRP) level of 2.3 mg/dL (reference limit: <0.3 mg/dL), and an increased fibrinogen level of 496 mg/dL (normal range: 180–350 mg/dL). This evidence concerns the gene CRP and anemia (phenotype).
