Our previous studies not only suggested that patients with ESS maintained a systemic inflammatory condition even years after cessation of exposure to silica dust [21] but also that IL-1RA, IL-8, IL-10, IL-16, IL-18, TNF-α, MIP-1α, G-CSF, and VEGF levels were increased in PMF patients compared to SS patients [25], positioning these cytokines as potential biomarkers of ESS severity.
