Infants of mothers with substance abuse have been found to have epigenetic modifications of NR3C1 (Glucocorticoid Receptor), FKBP5, and CRH (Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone), which result in altered stress responses, and these children are at higher risk of developing anxiety and depression in adulthood [129]. This evidence concerns the gene NR3C1 and depressive disorder.
