During PBS1/2 infection, the induced dCTP deaminase (Dcd)[12, 13] and dUMP kinase[14] promote the synthesis of dUTP as a precursor for phage dU‐DNA, while dTMP phosphatase (Dtm) depletes dT from the nucleotide pool to minimize its incorporation into phage DNA[15] (Figure1). This evidence concerns the gene DCD and infection.
