CD4 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Taken together, our findings suggest a specific proinflammatory environment in people with TB-T2D compared to those with TB-only (reduced naïve CD4 T cells, increased central memory and Mtb antigen-responsive CD4 T cells, and elevated Th1 and three Th17 cell subsets) that together may contribute to tissue damage that worsens TB outcomes.
