The patient should be ≥ 30 years old; have at least one of the four antibodies commonly seen in T1DM, namely anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) autoantibodies, insulin autoantibodies, islet cell antibodies (ICA), and insulinoma-associated-2 autoantibodies; and not be on insulin treatment for the first six months. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
