VWF and Marchiafava-Bignami disease: Although heavy menstrual bleeding was reported to be even more prevalent than in our MBD patient cohort, being found in 88% of female patients (assessed and quantified by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Bleeding Assessment Tool), the rate of ID in patients with low von Willebrand factor was 46% (with a more conservative ferritin cutoff of 23 μg/L), comparable with our patients.
