Adiponectin exerts its beneficial effects by binding to AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 receptors in the liver to activate the AMPK pathway, suppress hepatic gluconeogenesis and de novo lipogenesis, decrease the expression of SREBP-1 and activate PPAR-α that enhance fatty acid oxidation to prevent MASLD [77,79]. This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
