REN and atrial fibrillation: Rat model studies showed that salt intake was observed to cause myocardial structural alterations by the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system activation.[31] In 4 different studies, the relative risk of new-onset AF incidence was reduced by 20% to 35% when angiotensin receptor blockades were used.[32] It indicated a connection between the AF and the activation of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system.
