Lead exposure triggers non-apoptotic cell death pathways, including necroptosis—via upregulation of RIPK3 (lipid metabolism regulator contributing to inflammation and carcinogenesis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and MLKL (Mixed lineage kinase domain-like pseudokinase, an executioner of necroptosis) in olfactory cells. Here, MLKL is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
