Notably, both RyR2 expression as well as its CaMKII-dependent phosphorylation at serine 2814 (pRyR2-Ser2814) were elevated in DiabDCM hearts compared to NF or DCM tissues, suggesting an enhanced activity especially in diabetic patients (Fig. 1B, D).
