CAV1 and cancer: Cav1 maintains cell-cell adhesion and epithelial integrity by stabilizing adherens and tight junctions, inhibits the expression of transcription factors like Snail, Slug, and Twist, and negatively regulates matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), involved in extracellular matrix degradation and instrumental to cancer invasion and metastasis (Dalton et al., 2023; Miotti et al., 2005; Nagasaka et al., 2017; Salem et al., 2011; Strippoli et al., 2015).
