The anticipated upregulation of TREM2, GPNMB, and SPP1 in our RNA-seq datasets of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) was less pronounced than expected, despite previous studies consistently identifying lipid-associated macrophages (LAMs) as highly expressing TREM2, CD9, GPNMB, and SPP1 [26–30]. The gene discussed is CD9; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
