A study assessing the induction of apoptosis by erinacine A in human colorectal cancer cells demonstrated that erinacine A elevates the expression of the principal death receptor components of the extrinsic apoptotic pathway: tumor necrosis factor receptor-1 (TNFR1), Fas (CD95), and Fas ligand (FasL). The gene discussed is FAS; the disease is colorectal cancer.
