For example, in a retrospective cohort study involving 1338 patients with appendiceal adenocarcinoma, elevated preoperative levels of CEA, CA19-9, or CA125 were associated with significantly reduced 5‐year survival rates (82% vs 95%, 84% vs 92%, and 69% vs 93%, respectively, for elevated vs normal markers).[19] Furthermore, in patients with PMP secondary to LAMN, elevated CA19-9 and CA125 levels have been associated with shorter progression-free survival.[20] In the present case, all 3 tumor markers remained within normal limits preoperatively, consistent with a favorable prognosis.
