INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: The late stage of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterized by hyperglycemia, which results from the inability of pancreatic β‐cells to secrete sufficient insulin owing to β‐cell failure driven by secretory dysfunction and apoptosis.[1, 2] Although substantial efforts have focused on understanding the mechanisms of β‐cell failure in T2D,[3] the detailed mechanisms remain elusive.
